A Good Bedtime Story

Who doesn’t enjoy a good bedtime story? Me? I remember growing up and being told bedtime stories by my mom and dad almost every night. Those days are long gone now, but I still enjoy a good story to put me in the Sandman mood. Capital Idea Radio is happy to announce the reawakening of “Bedtime Stories”.

Bedtime Stories is a quick glimpse into some of our favorite video game backstories and then lulled off to the night with one of the title tracks with one of the worst impressions of K-Billy’s Super Sounds of the 70s. First appearing on Skirmish Frogs, Bedtime stories will drop all of those episodes you may have missed along with new entries every Tuesday night at 10 p.m. eastern standard time.

Until then, enjoy a sneak into the first episode set to be released Tuesday, May 1st and follow the RSS feed so you don’t miss a single Bedtime Story.

Digging up the grave of the past

You always find things when you aren’t looking for them. Recently, I was searching through my email (which there is a ton of since you don’t technially delete anything anymore) and came across some very old, very early ideas we developed here at Capital Idea Radio! They aren’t really that good, but I thought they would be fun to listen to. And they are, fun to listen to. But, yeah, there’s not a whole lot here.

Talking with Myself with Matthew Magoyavich – Mix Tape – We did a little “mock NPR” run developing two different shows to see if we could gain any traction with the ideas. As you probably already guessed, we didn’t. This one was about purchasing a telephone that can connect you to yourself but five years into the future. I still laugh at the thought of this: what amazing things could you know about the future in five years that you could use to your benefit? Now last it on things that don’t really matter.

Mending Fences with Dr. Lyle Plather – Mix Tape – The other NPR idea came from the one and only Ricky Glore. Mending Fences is about getting life advice from a “doctor” that has his degree in pop culture and trashy celebrity magazines. The advice is sincere even if the topics are strange.

It’s Alive – Mix Tape – There’s a well known audio theater trop known as The Truth Podcast that created a fiction based on Terry Bisson’s short story “Meat”. It’s amazing story and I highly suggest listening to it or reading it online. This inspired us to create our own “Meat”-like story. Suffice to say, we fell a little short. Still a great listen.

Mr. Stampe kills Jonathon Kirk – Mix Tape – There’s nothing like a killer revealing all of his secrets into a old school cassette tape. Mr. Stampe takes you on the ride of a serial killer’s mind. One of the very first attempts at audio theater and you can hear it. Even if the writing is damn near perfect. *dusts the shoulders off*

Capital Idea Radio! 2.0

Hello friends! I am Eric M Hunter, co-creator of Capital Idea Radio!, and I am happy to announce the official launch of Capital Idea Radio! 2.0. So what does that mean to you? Finally a site that you can navigate, listen to some of the great podcasts we have avialble, places to interact with us, and now, a section for news! But before we get into all of the nitty gritty, let me first give you a break down of some of the great shows we have avaliable to listen to if you are new here!

Shows

  • Bit o Fiction – ever wonder what some of your favorite video game protagonists were thinking before we were bombarded by terrible voice actors and stilted dialogue that made you want to claw your ears out? Well, take a step into a Bit o Fiction: a high quality audio fiction taking a slice out of their adventure that we can listen in on. New episodes are released when they are done and are not on any kind of reliable release schedule at the moment. This is to ensure the quality of the episode is not being hindered by time restraints.
  • Inconvenience – join the story of two friends who are trapped in a convenience store after a nuclear explosion. They don’t know what has happened or why, but at least they have each other. Join them as they try to live like a married couple and avoid their hilarious antics. Currently, this audio drama is on hiatus.
  • Mix Tape – not every show is cut out to be a series on its own, that’s why we have the Mix Tape. This is a place where we can come up with amazing audio fiction one-offs and enjoy that fact they have a beginning and end. It’s definitely a mix bag of entertainment that we plan to add to on a regular basis.
  • Reel 90 – take a step back to the 1990s where the movies were great (or not) with Reel 90. Three hosts explore some of the best and worst films that were released in the Clinton years. We discuss the highs, the lows, the goods, and the uglies with no consistency at all. This show is currently on hiatus.
  • Star Wars Gary – During the Clone Wars, clones were made in rapid amounts to prepare for the Droid army. You know as well as I do that not all of these Droids came out 100% so the Empire had to think of something. Join Jack, Kevin, and Gary as the police the hallways of the Death Star and endure the job that is probably most boring of all: standing guard. This show is currently on hiatus.
  • When All Else Fails – are you a gamer? Do you need gaming related advice? Introducing When All Else Fails: a twice monthly internet radio show about video game advice hosted by me: Eric M Hunter! We talk about all things gaming related to life and health with a huge dose of comedy. WARNING: It is not recommended to take anything I say as actual advice. This show is currently being released twice a month. You can get an advance copy of every episode by heading over to Skirmish Frogs.

There you have it! We are always working to add more shows to our network and if you’d like to be apart of the Capital Idea Radio! podcast network, send us some info over at mail@capitalidearadio.com and we’ll get in touch.

Hope you enjoy it!
